Push Bikes Information Event

Bicycle maintenance

This year we concentrated on the distribution of cycling information via the various Birmingham City Council leaflets and maps, the Bike Well book, pocket guides some Sustrans information, Push Bikes newsletters, and DVDs. Although we had included a Dr Bike in previous years, we found that even if we emphasised minor repairs only, people still presented bikes with significant problems which needed cycle shops to deal with, so this year we concentrated only on giving out information. But we did agree to one home visit to look at a bike, which was successful.

Around sixty people came to the table during the Week, each taking the info in our bags and we ran out of stock of the maps. All visitors were told of the Birmingham Cycle Revolution and display graphics illustrated the 20 minute circle and the canal tow path upgrade. A few visitors knew it was Bike Week – one was a CTC member, the others had seen my press release which was used, almost verbatim, by the Birmingham Mail on the Monday.

With thanks to Andy Bradshaw, Shelley Randle, Reception staff, and the person who restocks the vending machines!
