NCN5 Crossing of Broad Street Conflict with Motor Traffic
One guerilla option for dealing with the traffic island designed to block NCN5 at Broad Street is to cycle around the end. In one direction it's not too bad, though if you have a driver behind you it's difficult to cross the tram tracks at ninety degrees. In the opposite direction there is the potential for conflict with oncoming motor traffic that is not expecting cycles, and that means crossing the tram tracks at a bad angle in order to stay on the left. That said, for people using a handcycle or a trike, this manoeuvre around the island is particularly sketchy, but the alternative is a detour up the dropped kerb and via several multi-point turns to use the pedestrian crossing at the tram stop. Level filtered permeability across the island would be a big improvement for people with disabilities.
