Woodlands Park

Family cycling through Woodlands Park
The grass was left unmown in Woodlands Park this year (2024), allowing the flowers to bloom. The result was utterly beautiful. This photo was taken with a 1960's film camera, its silent simplicity more in keeping with the peaceful flood meadow. Of course that peace would have been destroyed if the family in the picture had been driving through in a car. This is an active travel through-route, part of a network of paths and parks that facilitate getting around the Bournville estate. And being a flood meadow (part natural, part man-made), this area also protects the houses downstream from flooding. Hard surfaces are environmentally bad, encouraging flooding and creating heat islands.
