Shopping by bike is normal and commonplace in Germany. These bikes are parked on what used to be a car park adjacent to a through-road. The road was closed, cars were largely excluded, and the area was restored to its original use as a market place. It looks original, but it its only a few years old. People cycle when they feel it is safe to do so.
