West Midlands Labour Cycles Summit

Cutting the Ribbon to Open the A34 and A38 Cycleways
Saturday, July 6, 2019 - 10:00 to 12:00

Location: Birmingham City Council, Council House, Victoria Square, Birmingham

Come along to the West Midlands Labour Cycles Summit, where we will hear from the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Tom Watson MP, the Leader of Birmingham City Council, Cllr. Ian Ward, and several other speakers.

Tom will be sharing his incredible health journey, the role cycling can play in reversing health inequalities and how together Labour in local, regional and national government can help make cycling safe, enjoyable and efficient.

The national Labour Cycles team will also be on hand to help develop a local network of Labour members to champion cycling across the West Midlands.

Following Parliament’s declaration of a climate emergency, Birmingham City Council has also passed such a motion, as have several other Labour councils - and set ambitious but realistic dates to become carbon neutral. We know that Transport is the largest contributor to pollutants, so we have make it safer, easier and cheaper for people to travel sustainably: walking, cycling and public transport.

However, to increase the number of cycled journeys across our region we have to invest the right amounts into the appropriate cycling infrastructure, as well as being bold in the reallocation of road space for cycling.

Birmingham’s new blue segregated cycle lanes on the A34 and A38 have been welcomed by all. Birmingham’s cycling revolution gathers pace.

But we can’t stop here, we need to go further with local, regional and national government creating this level of cycling infrastructure across our region and country.

Please sign up to this great event, which is open to all, and join us on this vital, cycled, journey.
