According to Birmingham City Council officers (or more accurately, one in particular), the traffic island in Broad Street that blocks NCN5 is not wide enough for a bike, and I might be killed waiting there if I was too stupid to be able to judge the traffic on a road with little traffic, or worse still hold up a tram. With the aid of a sophisticated scientific instrument, I was able to determine that this statement looks to be less than accurate. There are two measurements because the island is tapered.
