Autumn Ride, 12 & 13th of September
Hartington & the Tissington Trail
Hartington
Hartington is a classic Peaks village with a Hall
etc.
Accomodation: B&B and a Youth Hostel at Hartington Hall.
Tissington Trail
The Tissington Trail runs north from Ashbourne, Derbyshire, for 13 miles to Parsley Hay. Hartington is near the top. The Trail also joins the High Peaks Trail.
Lots of links:
The trail is largely off road with a gentle gradient going north.
How long for?
Saturday: the centre piece will be a day ride along the Hartington Loop, 23 miles. Starting from Hartington at 10:0am, with a good lunch stop around midday.
Saturday afternoon, an extra little ride along the Hartington Loop North (15 miles) which takes in NCN Route 54.
Sunday: the Tissington trail in the morning, lunch and finish early afternoon.
You can join us for all or part of the program.
If you won't be at the Sat 10:00 meetup, please contact us so we'll know you're coming
and can wait etc if you're late and let you know of any changes in
the plans.
Also, we will need some idea of numbers to check that cafes can
accommodate the group for lunch etc.
Note: some of the routes are along farm tracks etc, so narrow wheeled bikes are not recommended. If you can cope with canal tow paths, then you should be fine. It's sensible to carry a pump, spare inner tubes etc just in case.
Accomodation
Currently, we plan to circulate a list of suitable - probably in Hartington - B&Bs, campsites etc for people to book themselves.
Children?
Some of us may bring children. Those, children that is, who are up to a 25 mile will be very welcome to join the rides. It's likely that younger children & their mum(?) will find something good to do in Hartington. PushBikes can't be responsible for looking after children who will need to be accompanied by a parent. With any luck, there will be a couple of families to play together.
Getting there
The nearest railway station is at Matlock - a good ride from Hartington of ?? miles. (( need more details of feasibility of rail travel )) Going by car looks the best option. We can probably offer some lifts, including a bike, on a first come first served basis. Best check that the return schedule suits!
What next?
If you might be interested, please email us so we can get an idea of numbers.
Any suggestions about timing, accomodation and activities welcome, actually very welcome. Given reasonable interest, we will set up a forum/message board where those who have shown an interest can join in the planning.
